Is anyone familiar with the DVDs? I don't recall any prior discussions on this DB.

I was ok with his ideas but having trouble with his no wrist cock idea. His idea of a tight grip actually works.

He is the father of PGA Tour pro D.J. Trahan.

Don is the father of the "pop tart" swing where he takes the club virtually straight up on the backswing and then "pops ups" with his body thru impact.

It really works quite well although it takes a little practice.

What is the advantage of pops up with the body thru impact? Everyone else teaches staying down. David Duval and Annika both had their head up at impact but I don't believe they had their bodies actually poping up at impact.

He had a couple of shows on Golf Academy Live a few years ago and demonstrated his swing.

I guess one advantage of the "pops up with the body" is that you stay behind the ball which frees up the arms to swing past the head. Sort of like Percy Boomer's "swing in a barrel" method.

Likely what is really happening is that this guy has great hand-eye coordination and could swing the club in any manner and still hit nice shots.

:o)

I bought his DVD's 5 or 6 years ago. Very interesting setup. His knees are bowed out and stance is very wide.
The takeaway is straight back and the most important move is the "bump" of the hips forward to start the swing. I could never get it to work for me although I gave up farily quickly. It's very hard for someone to teach themselves these things even with videos. I'm sure if I had him for and hour, I would have done alot better than I did after several hours of trying by myself.

For the past 6 months I've been working on flattening my swing..Finally becoming comfortable with much better right elbow position and a better contact with all the clubs which has almost eliminated my slice..Now I read Don Trahan's technique which seems almost a contra statement to a flat back swing..As a somewhat late beginner to this game, it seems like there are contradictions among the experts!!! I've always thought a complete 90 deg. turn is what you should strive for and to attempt to keep the club on one plane for simplicity..

That's the problem with this game when you get so technical. For every "expert" who claims you should have a flat backswing there's one who says upright. It's like that every aspect of the swing.

I actually thought about checking out his stuff, but, I have no problem with a full shoulder turn so, think I'll stick with the more traditional swing...His method may be for the player who needs a reliable swing, but lacks the flexibility for the complete turn ..Seems as if the simple idea of a full turn.. on plane.., with a good connection, makes the most sense to me...IMHO...
