Do you have little trouble getting the long irons up, or is it difficult to get the 3,4 up to altitude?
The type of irons you should use depends on how you swing the clubs.
As clubs are designed, if you have clubs to fit your swing and a shaft to fit your swing, then you should have a uniform distance between irons.
Assuming you have checked loft and lie angles.
If you are losing distance gap as the irons get longer, it could be incorrect clubs for your swing, incorrect shaft, or possibly incorrect lie angle.
681 have .5* gap in lie angle from wedge to 5 iron, from 5 to longer the lie angle gap increases to 1*. This is for you to swing just a little flatter so that the club arc is more level at impact and so you generate just a little more power.
Yes I know that club builders that have equipment like mine say that .5-1* doesn't make any difference. That's because it is difficult to get exact lie angles. It does make a difference.
So you could try .5* upright on your 4 iron and see if that works, if so 1* upright for the 3 iron. This could cause your impact to be a little off in comparison to the shorter irons.
If that doesn't work, then I would try as 2club suggested and add a little loft to the 3,4. Contrary to popular belief a uniform distance gap is much more important than a uniform loft gap.
Then I would go to shaft changes for the 3,4 irons. This could be a lower bend point shaft, or a softer flex, or both.
Then I'd try a different head style. A cb, hybrid, or high lofted fairway wood.
Remember it doesn't matter what it looks like or the number on the club, it matters that club fits your swing and you get the distance you want.
